Interview with “King of the Nerds” Contestant, Danielle.

Team Hellions is located in central New York and we are proud to see fellow native Danielle on the new TBS unscripted competition series “King of the Nerds”.  Tune in this Thursday night, January 17th, at 10PM EST and get introduced to all the Nerds.  Then be there with us every week as we not only support Danielle but also grow to love the other 10 contestants as well.
Here’s more information from TBS themselves:
Thursdays are about to get nerd-tastic. TBS has announced its new unscripted competition series King of the Nerds will air Thursdays at 10 p.m. (ET/PT), beginning Jan. 17. Hosted by actors Robert Carradine and Curtis Armstrong (Revenge of the Nerds), King of the Nerds is the ultimate nerd-off. The series will follow 11 fierce competitors from across the nerd spectrum as they set out to win $100,000 and be crowned the greatest nerd of them all. TBS will pair King of the Nerds on Thursday nights with the network’s chart-topping telecasts of The Big Bang Theory.
Now, without further ado, is our interview with Danielle!

Kevin Hellions:  Danielle, as someone who lives in the same area as you, how does it feel to be the biggest thing to happen to Rome NY since Woodstock 99?

Danielle:  Seeing as I leave my house less than once a week, I hardly even notice!

You have mentioned in other interviews that you applied for the show in order to help your father.  What has been your family’s reaction throughout the King of the Nerds experience?

My family is super excited and very proud…Here’s to hoping they feel the same once they -see- the show, hahaha!

Recently there has been a backlash against “fake geek girls”.  Do you feel ever feel any pressure to “prove” your geek cred or does the freak flag fly so high there is no room for doubt?

I could care less about proving myself to anyone. Someone saying I am not a “geek” does not subtract anything from my 281+ played days of World of Warcraft. Screw that guy! Lol!

In your TBS bio you claim to have played over 6500 hours of Halo.  I’m a PS3 loyalist.  Can you convince me otherwise after spending near 7000 hours on the XBox 360?

I also have a PS3, and I can understand your loyalty as PS3 has some of the greatest exclusive games out there (God of War, Little Big Planet, Heavy Rain, Mod Nation Racers, Uncharted, just to name a few of my favorites.) For me, my true loyalty would lie with PC, but as far as consoles go…I really do prefer my Xbox. The Halo series is in my top 5 which is a huge contributing factor to this preference, but I also really like the feel of an Xbox controller. I have one of the old, fat-style backward compatible PS3…so it runs like a Mac truck (just as loud, and generates just as much heat, lol!)
*
Not to correct you, I just don’t want to pad my ner-cred, it was actually about 6500 games, which works out to closer to 3,000 hours, not that it really matters, lol.

With your pink hair and tattoos you stood out from the first commercial for the King of the Nerds.  Therefore, you must have stood out in central New York.  Was it difficult to grow up a geek or did you have a great support system of family and friends?

I never really had “real” friends when I was growing up. I don’t talk to anyone I knew from school now. I grew up trying really hard to fit in, and that just never worked out for me. When I was 19 or 20 I decided that I didn’t care if I fit in anymore, and I couldn’t be happier!

Speaking of Central New York, what are the best places for fellow nerds in all of central and northern New York?

In my personal experience, the best place for nerds is parked in front of a PC!

How was the filming experience?  What was the actual length of it and how fast did it go by?

It was about a month, which looking back absolutely flew by, but at the time seemed like 6 months, lol!

What is the greatest thing you learned during your experience?

I learned that putting an unreasonable amount of pressure on yourself will not improve your performance. I also learned that I am a really picky eater! Haha!
