The League – Happy Birthday!

Hello once again and welcome to the League of Extraordinary Bloggers.  Its the one year celebration for the League and our esteemed leader, Brian over at Cool and Collected, has given us not one but two topics to answer as part pf the birthday party.

Lets see what’s on tap this week.

1. Write about your involvement in the League of Extraordinary Bloggers and recall some of your favorite posts — these could be your own and/or those written by others.

2. Come up with a list of potential topics you would like to see as future weekly League challenges.

Damn.  Where to begin?

Answering the first question first, because that makes sense.  I’ve only missed two posts in the history of the League.  The first one, because I did not yet know about it.  The second was the week I got married because really that was one of the most chaotic times of my life and there was no time to write too. So I’ve damn near seen it all.

I’ve loved discovering new blogs through this community.  There are quite a few sites I visit daily now that wouldn’t have come to my attention without the League.  Many have subscribed to my blog as well.  These acts increase views and exposure for all of us.  There are few things more frustrating than not getting hits on a post, but thanks to the League that’s a rarity.

The amount of podcasts, and really good ones at that, I now listen to.  Underscoop Fire, Cold Slither, Nerd Lunch, Cult Film and I’m sure I’ve forgotten some (and if I have leave a comment so I can be sure to subscribe).  Between the posts, Twitter, and podcasts not a day goes by without someone in the League brightening it for me.

The Rise of Shezcrafti.  From out of no where she comes and changes everything.  There is the League before Jaime and the League after.  From her site, to her hits, to her following, to her podcast appearances, her overall exposure, I envy Ms Hood (if you’re nasty).

Friendships.  To reveal behind the curtain a bit here:  I work with some assholes.  I’ve walked home in snowstorms and worse.  Seen people continue about working like nothing happened after people have died.  Just shit stuff after three years plus.  But the League!  I’ve talked with League members about the wedding, the upcoming child, every event in my life.  I would rather hang out with Howie, Will, Brian, Reis, etc etc than any of the people I work with.  The brother (and sister) hood of the League can turn any day around.

I love what I discovered about myself and the creativity that the League inspires.   I would love it even more if I could get it done before Sunday nights though.

So what should be next for the League?

Back when we voted on the next one word topic there were a bunch that weren’t used.  Lets pull those out of mothballs!

League trading post.  What are you looking to get rid of/trade/whatever?  Maybe someone else in the League has something you would love, and you have their love as well.  For some reason I see a 3 or 4 person trade if this happens.

What are your Nerd to dos?  Yes, stolen from Nerd Lunch.  Lets all write down the thing we’ve been meaning to get around to and maybe put pressure on each other to do it.

League book or movie club!  Instead of taking a week to write a topic what if we took a week to all watch or read something then come back to it a week later?

Point/Counterpoint.  Lets have the League take sides and debate (respectfully of course).  First up, Spoilers!  I’m looking at you Will!

Your first.  First comic, or toy, or love or crush or this could go on and on.

Cooking with the League.  Its movie night, or a me day.  What do you make for it?  Or for your special one if you have one.  Or a party.

Google Hangout.

Lets do up some garage sale finds this summer.

Guest posts.  Look back to the original Image Comics.  One month all the writers and artists switched books.  Lets draw straws and write on each other’s blogs just once.  Maybe it will lead to new eyes for all of us.

Alright, enough out of me.  Lets see what the rest of the League had to say this week:

Fortune and Glory Days

Whatever I Think Of

Achievements in Gaming

Goodwill Hunting 4 Geeks

That Figures

Thirtyish Year Old Boy

Crooked Ninja Turtle Gang

Cool and Collected

Claymation Werewolf

3Bs Toy Hive
