Happy WrestleMania Day everyone! The table is set, the chairs are out, both of these will be smashed over someone’s head tonight.

I actually texted “Happy WrestleMania Day” to my wife earlier today and did not get an excited response. Odd.

Like all Figure Four-tune Tellers, I think that I can guess what will happen tonight better or more clearly than the WWE writing team has been doing for months. I’m also far from a lone voice in this, as a quick Google search will bring up loads of sites also thinking they know the future. But, it’s still fun and I like to look back sometimes to see where I along with the rest of the WWE Universe thought the path would be versus what actually happens.

With that said, let’s take a look.

The World titles.

Ronda Rousey (Raw Women’s champion) vs. Charlotte Flair (Smackdown Women’s champion) vs. Becky Lynch has been announced and hyped for the Main Event. Daniel Bryan (Smackdown World champion) vs. Kofi Kingston is the feel good story. Then there is Brock Lesnar (Raw Universal Champion) vs. Seth Rollins.

I don’t think all three of these titles will change hands. Becky HAS to win. Kofi HAS to win.  Okay, so no one has to win but when the entire movie has been telling the story of one person all along a good writer doesn’t change course in the final scene. Thus that leaves Seth out there in the cold. He’ll most likely beat Brock eventually. I mean, someone has to,  and the title should really be on Raw and defended more often. But tonight is not the night.

Winner and new Raw and Smackdown Women’s champion: Becky Lynch.

Winner and new Smackdown World Champion: Daniel Bryan.

Winner and retaining Raw Universal Champion: Brock Lesnar.

 

On to the under card!

Shane McMahon vs. The Miz.

The two former tag team champions who violently split up. A battle of men still seeking their father’s approval. A fight between the most under rated talent in all of wrestling and a part time wrestler/full time child of the owner of the company. ‘Mania is now about creating moments and The Miz getting a win as a babyface and bathing in the adulation of the crowd is a moment.

Winner: The Miz.

 

Triple H vs. Batista.

“Triple H has done everything in this business. Except beat me.” With that Dave “Drax” Batista set up this match. If Triple H loses his in ring career is over. Which it mostly is anyways. Plus, Batista might be brought back from the dust in a little movie called Avengers Endgame later this month. Triple H has the worst win loss record in WrestleMania history and really gains nothing by defeating Big Dave.

Winner: Batista.

AJ Styles vs Randy Orton.

AJ just signed a new contract with WWE. Orton is one of the veterans of the company. While there was nothing to gain in the previously mentioned match, Styles gains a lot with a ‘Mania victory over a multiple time world champion.

Winner: AJ Styles.

Kurt Angle vs. Baron Corbin.

This has been billed as Angle’s last match and it needs to be. His body is not being kind to him anymore and he risks hurting himself or his opponent. The come back was great, and I’m sure he’ll be moved to a new position in WWE but for the benefit of all, it’s time. As much as everyone is predicting a quick match with Angle winning and then celebrating his career, I think it shows it’s time for him to retire more if he is defeated. If he can quickly defeat a younger modern day star then why retire?

Winner: Baron Corbin.

Samoa Joe (US Champion) vs. Rey Mysterio.

Rey hurt his ankle this past Monday. Samoa Joe finally has a title on the main brands. He has missed multiple ‘Manias with injuries. Plus, Rey’s son has been by his side for weeks and is coincidentally training to be a wrestler. Some shady stuff is going to go down and none of the possibilities are good for Rey.

Winnner: Samoa Joe.

Bobby Lashley (Intercontinental champion) vs. Finn Balor as The Demon.

The Demon doesn’t lose. That’s the whole point of this alternate character. The whole reason to not be the Demon every week. Because everyone has to get defeated at some point. But not tonight. This character with one of the best entrances in all of wrestling on the Grandest Stage of Them All. It’s one of the few locks of the night.

Winner and new champion: Finn Balor.

Roman Reigns vs. Drew McIntyre.

I know everyone thinks this is a sure Roman victory, but coming off of the cancer treatment I think a loss will do more to advance him than a win. Drew can look strong and be on his way to a future World title reign. Roman can doubt himself and spend a year building himself back up. I can imagine a promo months from now where he says the fans believe in him but he needed to learn how to believe in himself again. People cry and he starts his path to be an overly popular babyface champion.

Winner: Drew McIntyre.

Sasha Banks and Bayley (Women’s tag team champions) vs. the IIconics vs. Beth Phoenix and Natalya vs. Tamina and Nia Jax.

With WrestleMania most likely ending with Becky holding titles high, and possibly celebrating with Charlotte, it will make the moment even stronger to have the two women that changed wrestling with them – Sasha and Becky – also in the ring as champions.

Winners: Sasha Banks and Bayley.

The Usos (Smackdown champions) vs. Rusev and Nakamura vs. The Bar vs. Aleister Black and Ricochet.

I was wrong about TakeOver. I really thought Black and Ricochet were going to win the NXT tag team titles and become double champions. Now I’m down to predicting them to hold only one set of tag team titles.

Winners and new champions: Black and Ricochet.

The Revival (Raw tag team champions) vs. Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins.

I have fallen in the trap as well and am now listening to all episodes of Ryder and Hawkins wrestling toy podcast. Plus, Hawkins has spent his entire WWE return losing. What’s he up to now? 200? 300 matches lost? In a row? Ryder got an amazing ‘Mania moment a few years ago with the Intercontinental title but I foresee another equally as memorable one coming today.

Winners and new champions: The Major Wrestling Figure Podcast.

Buddy Murphy (Cruiserweight champion) vs. Tony Nese.

It’s a shame because there is some great wrestling going on in this division but it’s such an after thought for most fans. It comes across as a place holder and a way to warm up the crowd, and less like a title match that means something. I wish I was wrong but it causes me to see no change here.

Winner and still champion: Buddy Murphy.

Andre the Giant Battle Royal.

I really wish this meant something, but winning it doesn’t give or guarantee anything. I had to look up previous winners. Just to pick a dark horse surprise, I’m going with EC3.

Women’s Battle Royal.

Again, last year’s winner was promised a title shot and that was forgotten. There were some NXT surprises in this last year and that does create a larger air of mystery for the winner. But after losing the Smackdown title I think Asuka could use a big win to start her rise to the top again.
