$600 million away from becoming the number one movie of all time. In two weeks. Just Avatar ahead of it. I’ve been wrong about speculating before but I’m willing to put it out there. This will become the number one movie of all time.
Here’s my logic. Iron Man came out in 2008. Avatar in 2009. Iron Man is so beloved that a decade later we all wanted hamburgers after watching Endgame. Plus the dozens if not hundred main and side characters that are known on sight around the world. Ten years ago maybe 1 out of 100 people at best had even heard of Ant Man much less knew anything about him.
On the other side, tell me one name from Avatar. Just one. Maybe you came up with “Jake Sully” and that’s only because the blue cat lady kept saying it. Name her. Or the planet. Or anything else. Tell me one person who owns it.
Avengers Endgame is the end of a meal enjoyed with your best friends and family. Avatar is a wet hot dog from a street vendor. They’re both food, and both make money, but only one matters in the end.
Number one by May 13.
Yeah, I often wonder at Disney’s commitment to building an entire park section based on Avatar and how long it will be popular once the newness wears off.
I know I’m not one of the people eagerly waiting for the sequel(s).
I’m sure it will be a good ride but it will be just that. A ride. No connection to the source. It’s going to be like kids going on Mr Toad’s Wild Ride who have never seen a second of The Wind in the Willows.
