Wrestling Week Begins!

I cannot believe how much wrestling is going to happen this week. Possibly important wrestling too. First an explanation for those who aren’t into the sport of kings. Same people who might be wondering why there’s a lot of wrestling talk on any channel owned by FOX.

I don’t know who originally put this graphic together, or for what site. It’s all over the internet now. But if anyone knows, let me know, and I’ll credit.

Three things are happening all at once. One, the new TV season has begun and in addition to fresh episodes of your favorite dramas and sitcoms, wrestling has chosen to have season premiers as well. New graphics, sets, announce teams, and some surprises.

Two, shows are changing channels/days. NXT moves to USA from the WWE Network. It also is now live and two hours long. Impact moves to the more noticeable AXS channel. The biggest move though is Smackdown moves to Friday nights and will be live for two hours on FOX. This is the biggest live wrestling show possibly in wrestling history. The only arguable comparison is Saturday Night’s Main Event but that was once a month and taped.

Third, competition has shown up. The new All Elite Wrestling begins their live two hour show on TNT every Wednesday night. A lot, a LOT, of money has been put into immediately making this the number two wrestling promotion in the world with eyes on WWE. The new war has already begun, as AEW and NXT will be live opposite each other on Wednesday nights.

There are other smaller independent promotions with shows across cable, YouTube, and syndication. Plus there’s a pay per view on Sunday!

I’m expecting some returns. Some wrestlers to jump shows or even companies. Title changes. Huge story line swerves. It’s going to be a big week. Not only for me and fans like me, but mostly for the casual viewer. The more big things that happen this week, the better chances that casual viewer becomes a weekly fan.

I’ll be here to answer any questions you might have. This is going to be a big week for hardcore fans, so if anything isn’t clear I’ll have the answer for you or know where to get it.

  1. My wife just signed up for Sling TV and it looks like it has all the channels I need to keep up with the big ones — Raw, SmackDown, Impact, and Dynamite. I was a little underwhelmed with the season premieres of Raw and Dynamite. They were good, but they didn’t blow me away. I think my expectations were too high.

    • Raw should have had more. I’m guessing between Smackdown on Fox, Hell in a Cell, and the Draft they got the short stick. Dynamite looked great but why wouldn’t you have more? Moxley, Kong, Private Party in a match, Luchasaurus, Orange Cassidy. Felt like everyone that could have drawn gasps and “this is awesome” chants were left off. Hoping it’s a slow build.

Side note, thanks for popping in. I’m guessing through the Countdown to Halloween. I’m checking out your stuff too. Well done over there.
