Oh this will be interesting. Last year the pandemic forced Money in the Bank to be a “cinematic” event. This year it will be the first pay per view since the return of fans. If we don’t count the fans being allowed back for WrestleMania. WWE has their own unique timeline of events. Anyways, as I do for every pay per view, allow me to try to predict who will win and why. This isn’t who I want to win, but who I think will win based on where WWE is most likely going with their stories.
Rey Mysterio and Dominik Mysterio (Smackdown tag team champions) vs. The Usos (Jey Uso and Jimmy Uso). Pre Show match.
Pre show match. Hot crowd. Fans back for the first time in forever. Roman Reigns is the head of the table and probably not losing the title soon (I’m predicting next WrestleMania). The tag team titles are great titles to change for stories or to get a quick crowd reaction, or even just for fun. Switching the titles here would make a ton of sense. The Samoan family reunited and holding gold.
Winners and new champions: The Usos.
Richochet vs John Morrison vs Riddle vs Drew McIntyre vs Big E vs Kevin Owens vs King Nakamura vs Seth Rollins for the men’s Money in the Bank contract.
This is always tough. I mean Otis won last year, then lost it to the Miz, turned heel, joined a tag team. And for what? The drama and the appeal of Money in the Bank needs to be brought back. Get the fans reacting. Make every week exciting. Especially with two briefcases. Who deserves it? Who needs the extra boost? Who will make it interesting? Who might WWE actually put one of the World titles on? I’m taking out Richochet, Morrison, and Riddle. I would be good with any of them but I don’t see WWE doing so. Seth doesn’t need it. Nakamura has won Royal Rumble and is now King and has won other titles and yet I’ve still yet to feel that anyone is ready to push him that final step. Drew makes sense because he can’t challenge Lashley again. But he can challenge the next champion. In fact, Drew helping the winner to defeat Lashley would be a good call back to how Lashley won the title. I really want Big E to get a title run but I think a character change is due. Even just his attitude. He gets serious, wins the Rumble, goes on to probably win the title. Which leaves us with…
Winner of the Money in the Bank briefcase: Kevin Owens.
Asuka vs. Naomi vs. Alexa Bliss vs. Nikki A.S.H. vs. Liv Morgan vs. Zelina Vega vs. Natalya vs. Tamina for the women’s Money in the Bank contract.
Okay, same rules. Who can I eliminate? Asuka won last year. Zelina just came back. Nikki just changed gimmicks. Natalya and Tamina have their own story going with the women’s tag titles. I don’t think Alexa is 100%. Naomi would be great and deserves it. Honestly, turning her heel and having her join her husband could be a real fun story. But after the reaction Liv got on Smackdown, and the online exclusive footage. This is a natural build. This is the fans screaming at WWE to do something. This is up there with Yes movement, Kofi-mania, and the Man. With fans coming back, give them someone to get behind.
Winner: Liv Morgan.
Bobby Lashley (Raw World champion) (with MVP) vs. Kofi Kingston (with Xavier Woods).
If I was booking I would turn this into a tag match with the title on the line. Or have Kofi get injured earlier in the night and Xavier takes his place. Woods did pin Lashley on Raw. Go for a shock the world title change. Barring any of that happening, no surprises will take place in this match.
Winner and still champion: Bobby Lashley.
Rhea Ripley (Raw women’s champion) vs. Charlotte Flair.
Rhea has to get this win. She has to be seen as an equal and not as an also ran to Charlotte. Or as 2.0 for the Queen. They’ve been feuding often but it’s time for both to move on to something else, especially with SummerSlam on the horizon. I’m picking Rhea to keep her title but this is my number one match that I expect to have interference or a DQ.
Winner (probably by DQ) and still champion: Rhea Ripley.
Roman Reigns (Smackdown world champion) (with Paul Heyman) vs. Edge.
As I said before about MITB I think Roman will hold the title until next Mania. I think this match could see some shenanigans too. Roman will cheat to win. Edge will be so close. He won’t look weak at all. But Roman will sneak out with the title.
Winner and still champion: Roman Reigns.
AJ Styles and Omos (Raw tag team champions) vs. The Viking Raiders (Erik and Ivar).
I think the whole point of this match is to put Omos in front of a live crowd. I’m not expecting much, but I think WWE wants to get Omos over with the fans. He’s big, and that’s about it. We’ve been here before. They’ll keep the titles this time around but I think the Omos experiment doesn’t have much left.
Winners and still champion: AJ Styles and Omos.
So who do you think will win? I’ve already called the TV for 7pm tonight when the pre show begins. Let me know all your guesses.
